SCOPE OF WORK

Renovation / Remodel

Hays Electrical Services is proud to have contributed to the revitalization of the Tower Life Building, a historic landmark in downtown San Antonio, Texas. Originally completed in 1929 as the Smith-Young Tower, this 31-story Gothic Revival skyscraper was the tallest building in San Antonio until 1988. Designed by architects Atlee and Robert M. Ayres, the building features an octagonal shape, intricate terra-cotta detailing, and a distinctive green Ludowici tile roof. In 2022, the Tower Life Building was acquired by a development group including Ed Cross, Jon Wiegand, and McCombs Enterprises. Plans are underway to convert the building into a mixed-use residential complex, featuring approximately 244 rental units, ground-floor retail spaces, and a rooftop garden deck. This adaptive reuse project aims to preserve the building's historic character while integrating modern amenities to meet contemporary urban living needs.
